It was closed around Scramogue cross, for a forensic examination, but has just reopened. 

Geraldine Gannon was from Oakfield, Strokestown, and aged in her 80s.

She was a passenger in an SUV that collided with a truck on the N5 at Scramogue at around 5pm.

Senator Joe Flaherty said: “The barracks has long been the starting point for the regeneration of the county town."

The road is closed and expected to remain so until tomorrow pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local man Michael Scally would like to see a German discount supermarket open at the site.

His family are selling their house in Elphin and have sold their car, as they continue to fight his case.
