Homeless figures hit new high as over 16,000 registered, including 4,500 children

Nearly 16 thousand people are now registered as homeless here, that includes over four and a half thousand children.

May's figure's disclosed another record breaking number of people living in emergency accommodation, but doesn't take into account the hidden homeless.

The figures released by the Department of Housing yesterday, shows the government must now implement a radical housing plan to tackle the disaster.

Michelle Murphy Research and Policy Analysts with Social Justice Ireland says the affordability of a home is out of reach of most people.
