Proposals going to Cabinet this week include a new annual tax of at least seven per cent of a property’s value.

Owners of derelict properties in Roscommon town, Carrick-on-Shannon and Longford town could face a new tax in this year’s budget. Proposals going to Cabinet this week include a new annual tax of at least seven per cent of a property’s value.

It will be first rolled out in cities and towns with populations of over 4,000. Roscommon-Galway TD Martin Daly, from Fianna Fáil, says he supports it:
