Shannonside FM Roscommon GAA correspondent Willie Hegarty believes two-pointers could decide this weekend’s semi-final.
The final hurdle arrives this Saturday and Sunday as Padraig Pearses face St. Faithleachs and St. Brigids face Clann na nGael with a place in the final up for grabs.
The four senior quarter-final games saw 21 two-pointers scored. In fact, Brigid’s and Roscommon Gaels couldn’t muster a two-pointer. Whereas, four of those two-pointers came from the dead ball.
Indeed, Shannonside Sport’s Willie Hegarty, believes a surge of Clann scores outside the big D could put an end to Pearses hopes.
“In the 12 quarter-finals (senior, intermediate, junior) there was 61 two-pointers” explained Hegarty. “Two teams, Brigid’s senior and intermediate teams kicked no two-pointers”.
“Roscommon Gaels was the only other team. Two Brigid’s teams, with county footballers and kicked no two-pointers".
"Their job is speed, speed, speed, precision, off the shoulder running and get the ball to b and b. Ben (O’Carroll) and Bobby (Nugent) inside".
“When you have Ben and Bobby inside, that’s Brigid’s games plan, it’s up to the opposition to try and stop that”.
Indeed, Brigid’s go into the game as favourites with many tipping Anthony Cunningham’s side for an All-Ireland tilt.
