Dromard preserved to take an opening day win in the Longford championship, after Ardagh pushed them to the collar.
New promoted, Ardagh took the lead within a minute through Killian Farrell.
The Dromard response was three points in-a-row from Joseph Hagan. Dromard leading three points to one after three minutes.
The game swung with seven minutes on the clock. James McGoey was fouled in the square.
Up stepped Dylan Coady to smash home the penalty. Jack Gallagher added a point to move Ardagh 1-2 to three points ahead.
Aaron Farrell from play and a Joseph Hagan free brought it back to a square game after 15 minutes.
However, Ardagh swung into gear. Jamie Connor and Hagan (free) exchanged scores.
Killian Farrell landed Ardagh’s second goal with 22 minutes on the clock. This followed a well worked free with the ball given back to Farrell from the end line to find the net.
Jamie Conor converted a two-point free two minutes later to give Ardagh a 2-5 to six point lead.
Dromard’s Conor McGauran and another two point free from Connor rounded out the first-half scoring. Ardagh leading 2-7 to seven points at half-time.
However, Connor didn’t pick up where he left off, missing a free after the restart. Aaron Farrell’s sent over two points either side of Darryl Carrigy point.
Indeed, the game swung in Dromard’s favour as Emeet Donlon received a black card on 36 mintues. Fionn Hourican and Carrigy (fisted point) exchanged scores as Ardagh led by five points after 38 minutes.
The lead was down to three points after Joseph Hagan converted a two-point free. However, the game was delayed some six minutes after Dylan Vance suffered a suspected concussion. Dromard went on a run of five points. Two from Hourican and a Hagan free had the side’s level with nine minutes remaining.
Another Hagan free and a ’45 moved Dromard two clear. When Jamie Connor rattled the crossbar with Ardagh’s first chance in nearly 20 minutes, there was a sense it maybe Dromard’s night.
However, Darryl Carrigy levelled the game with a minute of normal remaining through a two-point free. 2-11 to 0-17.
Indeed, up stepped the Dromard big guns, Hagan, Farrell and Hourican sending over points to move Droamrd 20 points to 2-11 ahead, six minutes into injury time.
Carrigy wrapped up the scoring with an Ardagh point after seven minutes of injury time.
