Unions baffled by plans to allow unvaccinated pregnant women back into classrooms

The Education Minister says public health advice suggests it is safe.

Teaching unions say they're alarmed unvaccinated pregnant teachers are being forced back into the work place.

The Education Minister says if an unvaccinated pregnant teacher has a particular concern, they can get certified by a GP or consultant and avail of pregnancy related sick leave.

Unions are pushing for the teachers concerned to be allowed work from home, as they did before the summer holidays.

Minister Norma Foley says the advice from the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is that it's safe for the teachers to be in school.
