The south Roscommon community will be briefed today on plans for a wind farm by two of the country's biggest energy companies. It's a joint venture between Bord na Mona and SSE Renewables. These two companies are proposing to build a wind farm on Cornafulla Bog in south Roscommon. It's near Athlone, Clonmacnoise and Shannonbridge. The companies say, as the project is still at any early stage, the number and location of the turbines has not yet been determined.
But they say the development of a wind farm on these bogs would continue the long tradition of energy production in a new, increasingly sustainable form. Locals will be able to find out more information at a community engagement session in Clann na nGael GAA club in Johnstown, Athlone, this evening between 5 o'clock and 8.30. At the same time on Thursday, there's a similar session in St Ciaran's National School in Clonmacnois, Shannonbridge.
