Roscommon Galway Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says he believes closing all off-licences for the next weeks and re-opening pubs would reduce the risk of Covid transmission.

The Independent TD says that closing the off-licences, including those in supermarkets, would make it harder for house parties to be held.

He says at the moment there is a real risk from house parties during the weeks of lockdown and he believes it would be easier to allow people have a drink in the controlled atmosphere of a pub.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning the Independent TD says pubs could close at 10 o' clock at night and still cater for people who would like to have a social drink.
