All non-urgent elective procedures at Roscommon University Hospital hospital have been deferred.
RUH is reverting to virtual outpatient clinics for the next two weeks and all Patients are being notified directly.
The deferrals will be for a two week period initially and will be kept under review.
However, endoscopy services at the hospital will continue as scheduled and patients should attend their appointments unless they have any symptoms of COVID-19 or are close contacts of people with COVID-19.
Mary Garvey, Hospital Manager at RUH has also confirmed the roll-out of vaccines to front line workers in the hospital will commence this week.
Meanwhile the Midlands Regional hospital in Tullamore has confirmed that it is reducing several services to maximise resources in the fight against Covid.
From today all non-time dependent work including inpatient, day case and outpatient services are set to cease
The hospital has confirmed that essential services and urgent time sensitive procedures will continue to be provided and the public are being encouraged not to attend unless contacted by a member of staff.
General manager Noreen Hynes says the decision has been made as part of efforts to maintain critical and emergency services and anyone who does need to attend for an appointment is asked to attend alone unless the support of another person is essential, and general visiting restrictions also remain in place.
