Roscommon County Council is expected to appoint a contractor in the coming weeks for the rollout of free WiFi to 12 towns and villages in the county.
The initiative is part of an EU scheme to bring free internet access to the main streets of towns across the country.
Twelve areas, including Knockvicar, Ballinagare, Loughglynn and Tulsk are included in Phase 1 of the project, with a further nine areas, including Curraghboy, Ballyleague and Lecarrow earmarked for Phase 2.
The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says it will require some buy in from residences and businesses in the areas:
