A Roscommon company is leading the way in training Ireland's first water leak detection dog.
Anubis Detection, founded by Enda Mahon, specialises in the use of highly skilled, extensively trained dogs to find underground drinking-water leaks, the practice is already commonplace in the UK and Australia.
Rex. who has been trained by Carmel and Eamonn Moran at Laurel Wood Kennel near Kilkerrin in East Galway has received approval from the Mid Roscommon Group Water scheme after finding two sources where large volumes of water were being lost.

Enda Mahon says the training is based on the dogs’ keen sense of smell.
