There's been almost 40 per cent increase in the number of detections of drugs for personal use in the Longford area since the beginning of the year.
According to a report to the Joint Policing Committee this week, there's been a 28% increase in the detections of sale and supply of drugs.
Superintendent Jim Delaney told this week's meeting of the JPC that the divisional Drugs Unit is very active in Longford District with a number of operations underway.
Drugs searches to date are showing a 39% increase in detections for offences of simple possession and a 28% increase in detections for offences of sale and supply.
There has been a 32% reduction in assaults overall compared to the same period in 2020.
In terms of burglaries, the numbers reported are in single digits for the year 2021.
Superintendent Delaney says that to date there's been 1,906 Covid Proactive Patrols, including inspections of retail outlets, pubs, open amenities and parks, where there's generally good compliance with the restrictions.
In the Granard area, as well as the seizure of 120,000 worth of Drugs on the 23rd January in Aughnacliffe, there's been 6 incidents of drugs possession so far in 2021, and two detections of sale and supply.
There's been four burglaries since January, all committed in Edgeworthstown with a 100% detection rate to date and four assaults with a 60% detection rate.
In terms of criminal damage, there's been 8 incidents, these are mainly family feud related, according to the Gardai.
