Public health officials say we CAN save Christmas if action is taken now to stop the spread of Covid-19

The National Public Health Emergency Team will meet today as it warns the country is now in a period of "exponential growth".

It's predicted that the number of daily cases could exceed one thousand in a matter of weeks.

People are being urged to "radically" reduce their social contacts in order to slow the spread of the virus.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan, says they will give specific consideration to Christmas - while NPHET's Professor Philip Nolan says the next three weeks are crucial.
