Planning permission has been lodged in Leitrim for the creation of a new independent democratic school for 5 to 18 year olds.
The application from Katrina Sheerin on behalf of The School of Empowering Education calls for the school to be established at a former creche on the Station Road in Mohill.
According to the applicant, democratic schools allow every member of the school such as staff and students to have a voice in running the school.
Education would focus on self directed learning for enrolled students of all ages.
Plans call for the temporary change of use of the creche and pre-school, with the facility supporting a maximum of 30 students across 5 years.
County planners will decide on the issue July, with the Applicant planning for the school to begin operating in September.
