There's generally positive welcome for plans for a major new housing development in the Brawny area of Athlone.
Alanna Roadbridge Limited is set to lodge plans directly to An Bord Pleanala this week for 550 units on a site that is currently land locked in the area.
It will be fast tracked through the Strategic Housing Development system, similar to a recent application for over 600 homes in the area.

Mayor of Athlone Aengus O' Rourke says the developers have been consulting with all agencies including the local resident in the area for the last 18 months and a development of a new road has been one of the key aspects of the plans.
