Over 5,000 people across the Shannonside region are currently on the live register. The figure comes from a recent report compiled by the CSO. The CSO provided a break-down of the number of people availing of Jobseeker's Benefit and Allowance by social welfare office and age in the month of March. Co. Longford held the highest figure in the region, at 1,915 claimants. Out of these, 281 were under the age of 25.
The number is followed by 1,849 in Co. Roscommon, with 221 under 25 years of age. While Co. Leitrim holds the lowest number in the region, at 1,507. A total of 5,271 people across the Shannonside region were availing of the scheme in March, which comes at a 9% decrease since this time last year. Nationally, the CSO recorded 162,900 people on the Live Register for the month of March, down by 1% from February 2025.
