Over 170 commencement notices have been issued in the Shannonside region so far this year.
That's according to the Department of Housing's monthly figures.
A Commencement Notice is a notification to a Building Control Authority that a person intends to carry out works or a Material Change of Use under the Building Regulations.
The notice must be given between 14 and 28 days before starting the works or change of use.
From January to May, there were 87 in county Roscommon, 44 in county Leitrim and in Longford, there were 43.
