The north Roscommon town of Elphin is hoping to set a trend this year by leaving their Christmas lights on until the end of this month.
Local councillor Valerie Byrne says so many people had commented positively about the lights since they were switched on in December she asked the local committee if they could be left on for the next numbers of weeks.
The Independent councillor says that with so many businesses closed again under the latest Covid restrictions, many villages and smaller towns are darker than usual.
She says that many people will be feeling anxious again with Covid figures on the increase, and the lights will be one way of lifting the mood generally.
