The official formation of the new Atlantic Technological University takes place today.
ATU encompasses Sligo IT, GMIT and Letterkenny IT, with Sligo now being designated as a university town.
Dr. Orla Flynn will be officially appointed as president while later this afternoon Leitrim native and Chair of the Governing body Maura McNally will host a special welcome event.
It's expected the university will deliver €700 million to the region's economy every year and President Flynn hopes it will connect with communities and enterprises in the area.
Minister Simon Harris will perform the official opening of the University in Sligo on Monday.
