The new Cathaoirligh in the Carrick on Shannon and Ballinamore Municipal Districts have been elected today. Meanwhile, Cllr Des Guckian left the Carrick on Shannon MD meeting in protest. Fianna Fáil Cllr Paddy Farrell has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach in the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District. Newly elected Fine Gael Cllr Maeve Reynolds was elected as Leas Cathaoirlech.
The meeting wasn't without drama as Cllr Des Guckian once again left early following leaving the Leitrim AGM after 10 minutes last week. Cllr Guckian was highly critical of his fellow councillors saying some are raking it in from travel expenses. He also said he is considering resigning as a Cllr to highlight his concerns about Leitrim County Council.
Meanwhile in the Ballinamore Municipal District, Fine Gael Cllr Ita Reynolds Flynn has been elected as Cathaoirleach. Newly elected Fianna Fáil Cllr Gary Prior will take the role of Leas Cathaoirleach.
