The Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture says she hopes work can begin soon on gathering the views of people around the country in relation to the forestry sector.
Minister Pippa Hackett was speaking in Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday where she officially launched a tree planting project on 11 acres of land owned by Irish Rail.
The project is part of a scheme to plant native trees on state owned lands across the country and Irish Rail is the first state agency to officially engage with the scheme.
Asked about the concerns of many people in Leitrim that the county already has far too much land planted, Minister Hackett says she is very much aware of their concerns.
She says she hopes her Woodland project which was launched last April will give people in places like Leitrim a voice in forestry planning for the future.
