A man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Roscommon which left another man in a critical condition. The injured man in his 30s is being treated in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following the incident on Barrack Street in Ballaghaderreen in the early hours of yesterday morning.
This afternoon, Gardaí arrested a man in his 40s in connection with the incident. He's being questioned at a Garda station in the north-west, where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area at around 1am on New Year's Day and may have camera footage to come forward.
