The tragic love story of Kitty Kiernan and Michael Collins is to feature as part of a new documentary tonight.
The Granard native was engaged to the Corkman when he was shot dead by anti-Treaty forces in his home county in August 1922, just a few months before they were due to get married.
The first episode of Scealta Gra na hEireann focuses will also feature some never before seen colourised photos and will focus on the 300 love letters exchanged between Collins and Kiernan between 1918 and 1922.
After Collins' death, Kiernan went on to marry Felix Cronin and had two sons
- the youngest of whom , Michael Collins Cronin, died earlier this month at the age of 91.
Producer Derek Nagle told the Joe Finnegan Show that Collins and Kiernan were known all across Ireland
