Loughglynn Ambulance Service in county Roscommon will begin operating on a 24/7 basis from this week.
The move was confirmed by Head of the National Ambulance Service Martin Dunne to Roscommon Galway TD Claire Kerrane, who had requested a report from the NAS on the levels of activity at the base.
It revealed that between January 2019 and October 2020, 4,259 emergency, urgent, and routine calls were received for the region.
Mr Dunne says the service will require the use of overtime and non-rostered staff initially, but they will no longer be required once the next cohort of trainee Paramedics become available for deployment.
Deputy Kerrane says it’s a positive development for the entire area.
