A local mother of a child with diabetes is cautiously welcoming the announcement of a new temporary nurse specialist for the children's diabetic services at Mullingar hospital.
Parents of children who attend the clinic were sent letters last month informing them that all appointments been cancelled with immediate effect.
The cancellations were the result of not being able to recruit a new dedicated nurse for the Mullingar based hospital following a staff retirement.
The closure has been met with worry from parents who rely on the vital 3 month check ups for their children.
The issue was raised by Fianna Fáil Minister and Longford Westmeath TD Robert Troy who was informed by the Department of Health this week, that a temporary replacement will take up the role this month, with a full time replacement due in 2022.
