Longford dairy farmer Mike Magan says he hopes to be able to travel to Yemen later this year to highlight the ongoing crisis there due to war and famine.
The Killashee man was speaking as a charity appeal he instigated last year saw €190,000 transferred to the funds of the Red Cross last Friday.
Mike Magan had asked every dairy farmer in the country to donate €10 euro from their milk cheques and he says the money raised was far more than he could have hoped for.
The project was strongly supported by dairies and co-ops who used their own payment mechanisms to actually collect the funds.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show today, the Longford farmer revealed he has plans to try to go to Yemen later this year and raise more awareness of the suffering of the people there.
