The Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council has condemned those behind hoax bomb threats in the town over the weekend.
Two calls made to Dunnes Stores on the Dublin Road and the Longford Shopping Centre on Saturday evening saw hundreds of staff and customers forced to evacuate the buildings.
According to Gardaí, emergency services responded to the calls regarding suspicious devices at the buildings, with specialist canine units and Members of the Defence Forces aiding the search.
Both locations were secured and deemed safe over night on Saturday.

'The person at the back of this, I'm they thought it was a very funny joke, but the reality is that it wasn't.
It has caused people huge distress, It's taken up a huge amount of Garda time and resources on Saturday evening.
It has had a detrimental effect to those two major retail business a=that were affected and the town in general.
