Local walks and trails get funding boost

Around €345,000 has been announced for the Shannonside region this morning under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. €160,000 is being allocated for work

Around €345,000 has been announced for the Shannonside region this morning under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

€160,000 is being allocated for work in Leitrim, while €103,000 is going to Roscommon, and almost €83,000 has been allocated for Longford.

The grants range from €3,000 to €20,000 euro for various projects including €19,800 for the development of a trail link at Lough Rinn, and the same amount for the development of a trail at Keeldra Lake in Leitrim.

In Longford, the grants include €20,000 each for a river walk in Aughnacliffe, and a bog walk at Knappogue.

In Roscommon, €20,000 has been allocated for the enhancement of a cycle trail opened earlier this year between Boyle and Lough Key, while funding of €20,000 is also being given for the upgrading of the National Famine Walk between Strokestown and Tarmonbarry.
