A local MEP has written to the Justice Minister calling on him to support a new investigation into the death of a Leitrim man in 2020. 87-year-old Liam Farrell was found dead outside his home in Rooskey in January 2020, and his family believes he was attacked. Following a review into the initial investigation, Gardaí have stated that new witnesses are to be interviewed about Liam's death.
Foreign forensic experts will also carry out an independent examination of the evidence. However, Liam's family are seeking a new investigative team to conduct a full new investigation into the death of their father and brother. Midlands North West MEP Ciaran Mullooly says he has brought that request to the Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan:
