Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny says he was “shocked” to hear that a vehicle recovered in the investigation into the false imprisonment of Kevin Lunney had been burned while in Garda custody.
The Special Criminal Court heard yesterday the vehicle was burned “apparently accidentally” while being held as part of the Garda investigation.
The Sligo-Leitrim TD says he has written to both the Minister for Justice, Charlie Flanagan, and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris seeking an explanation for this “bizarre situation”.
Deputy Kenny says many people have contacted him to express concern over this incident, and he added that Gardaí at the highest levels have questions to answer.
The Sinn Féin TD told Shannonside Northern Sound that this issue goes to the core of public trust in the gardaí.
