Pressure needs to be brought to bear on Minister for Housing Daragh O' Brien to prioritise the rollout of a pilot into a reed bed system to allow for one off housing in rural county Leitrim.
Poor soil percolation in parts of the county has prevented the granting of permission to the building of houses in rural areas, which would contravene water quality standards,
A pilot study into the development of a willow reed bed system has been on the table for many years, but so far progress on it has been slow.
The issue was raised by Sligo Leitrim TD Marian Harkin TD in the Dail, where Junior Minister Malcom Noonan gave no indication of it being a priority.
