The Geraghty family in Carrick-on-Shannon say they're happy and relieved that a council project which would have involved the demolition of their shop and home is not going ahead.Plans to develop a "game changing" redevelopment of the town centre were revealed last July when the council said it intended to apply for money under the Urban Regeneration Fund.
The Geraghty family said they were horrified at the prospect and began a petition to save their premises which has been trading for over 70 years.
It was announced this week that the council has been unsuccessful in their application for funds and the redevelopment project can't go ahead.Karen Geraghty Prior says her grandmother Kathleen is very relieved at the news and they are also very grateful for the support of the public over the past several months.
