A European elections candidate for the Midlands Northwest has said the proposed EU migration pact is terrible for human rights. Saoirse McHugh says measures contained in the pact would further endanger the lives of asylum seekers. She added that it would lead to detention centres akin to those on the US-Mexican border.
The new European Migration and Asylum Pact would see accelerated processing of unsuccesful applicants and asylum camps near airports. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning. the European hopeful said human dignity needed to form the basis of all immigration policy:
