Efforts continuing to restore power to 4,500 homes in Leitrim

Storm Barra is moving away from Ireland to the UK this afternoon.

Over 4,500 people across Leitrim remain without power this afternoon due to damage caused by Storm Barra.

The county has been the worst hit in the region, following an orange weather warning overnight.

Power is beginning to be restored in the region, with over 1,000 premises without power in both the Mohill and Gorvagh areas.

In Monaghan 745 homes and businesses are out of electricity in Clones, with a small number of minor outages elsewhere in the county.

Roscommon and Longford have seen the majority of services restored over the course of the morning.

Outages have also been resolved in Cavan Town.

Nationally, Nearly 60 thousand homes and businesses are without power across the country.
