Dozens of landline telephone lines appear not to be working in Longford town and its surroundings this lunchtime.
It's understood the fault, which appears so far to only affect landline telephones, was first reported just after midday.
No incoming or outgoing calls are available on landlines but it is understood that phone operators are aware of the issue and are trying to resolve the problem.
