Construction industry says it's been "thrown under a bus" in latest Covid restrictions

The closure of schools and construction until January 31st is set to be agreed at Cabinet later.

Under the plan, special schools will be exempt along with some construction projects, while creches will be able to provide childcare for essential workers.

Government ministers are also set to agree that visitors into the State should provide a negative Covid-19 test on arrival.

Restricting retailers click and collect service to deliver only will also be approved.

There are currently 8 open outbreaks of Covid-19 on construction sites, according to the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

Tom Parlon from the Construction Industry Federation feels the sector's being thrown under a bus by plans to shut it down for the month.
