The newly appointed Chairperson of Mayo Roscommon Hospice has paid tribute to the staff and volunteers who have kept the service going in very challenging times over the past 12 months.
Boyle native Mike Smith who took on the role at the end of December says the year ahead will be exciting with the opening of the Roscommon Hospice due in July, but the work will also go on to support and fundraise for the organisation constantly.
He says the work of the nurses who go into people's homes to care for them, and the work of the volunteers in manning the charity shops all plays a vital role for the service.
Mike Smith says the workers and volunteers continue on even during holidays like Christmas and that's important to recognise.
