Castlerea mart manager Brendan Egan says Level 5 restrictions are going to mean major problems for some farmers as they try to sell and buy livestock over the coming weeks.
The manager says this month and next are peak trading times for livestock farmer and last week Castlerea put 1,300 animals through its doors representing €1.1 million euro of business.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning Brendan Egan says he believes the marts could have managed moving to Level 4, where some buyers or sellers could come inside, but the total "online" version of marts under Level 5 will simply not work for many farmers.
He says a lot of farmers who want to buy or sell their animals are not computer literate and will have to reply on help from family or neighbours if they have to make money to pay their bills.
