There are calls in Longford and Roscommon for books of condolence to be opened to allow people express their sorrow at the death of Detective

There are calls in Longford and Roscommon for books of condolence to be opened to allow people express their sorrow at the death of Detective Garda Colm Horkan who was shot dead while on duty in Castlerea on Wednesday night.

In Longford Councillor Peggy Nolan is hoping that a book of condolence will be opened at the local authority offices.

She says she would like the people of Longford to be able to share their sympathies with family of Garda Horkan, following his death, and also his fellow officers throughout the Roscommon Longford garda division.

Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Paschal Fitzmaurice says the local authority there is also considering the options for a book of condolence - however details may need to be developed further as Aras an Chontae remains closed.
