People living in rural Ireland are set to be hit hardest by the increase to the carbon tax.
It will add up to two euro to a full tank of petrol or diesel from midnight, according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
The increased carbon tax will mean drivers will pay around 2.17c more per litre for petrol and 2.52 cent more for diesel.
Conor Faughnan, Director of Consumer Affairs at AA Ireland says it'll hit rural drivers hardest.
The cost of filling a 60-litre tank of petrol will rise by approximately €1.50.
The changes will take effect from midnight tonight.
Meanwhile, the Irish society of the motor industry is warning a new family car could cost up to €1000 more as a result of the changing VRT regime.
