A new service will grant a legal entitlement to adopted people in the Shannonside region to access their information.
The new Contact Preference Register allows for anyone who was adopted, boarded out, had their birth illegally registered, or who has questions about their origins to access any birth, early life, or medical information relating to them.
So far 159 people in the Shannonside area have put their names on the register. Roscommon has the most applicants at 82, with Longford and Leitrim having 38 and 39 respectively.
Nationally, over 16 thousand people have registered with the service to date.
