Over 70 per cent of parents in Longford want primary schools to be religious.
It's the second highest percentage in the country, according to a survey.
The Department of Education asked current or future parents of primary school children a number of questions, in this major survey.
The main one related to whether their school should be religious or non-religious.
Nationally, around 45 per cent of parents want their school to have a multi-denominational patron - with a majority of 55 per cent wanting a denominational or religious patron.
The Shannonside region, overall, is an area which particularly wants religious primary education to continue.
Under 30 per cent of parents in Longford want a non-religious school, 34.5 per cent in Roscommon, and 37 per cent in Leitrim.
The vast majority of local parents want co-ed primary schools - over 96 per cent in all three counties.
But the vast majority don't want their school to teach through Irish - with less than 19 per cent backing this in Roscommon, under 14 per cent in Longford, and less than 18 per cent in Leitrim.
