Brendan Barry has called on Minister responsible for the forest service to explain what has been done to protect electricity lines from falling trees.

The award marks the Technological University of the Shannon as one of the top rated universities in the world.

The incident occurred at approximately 2am this morning in Mohill.

UPDATE: A man in his 20s has been charged and appeared before Roscommon District Court earlier today.

He's being questioned at a Garda station in Longford, where he can be held for up to 24 hours.

The duration of the road closure will depend on how long the water level in the lake remains close to or above the level of the public road, with the closure expected to last for at least a number of weeks.

His call comes following the recent announcement that Roscommon Post office will be run by a contractor and most likely move from its current location on The Square in Roscommon town.

Roscommon County Council will decide on the issue in the coming months.
