Eight cars were set ablaze at a car park off Main Street in Duleek shortly before 11 o'clock on Friday night.

The incident occurred on the Longford Town side of the N4 after the Maria Edgeworth roundabout in Edgeworthstown at 7pm.

Gardaí have confirmed local diversions are in place and the road closure is set to be held for the night. 

The North Roscommon Town has been without a hotel for around 15 years.

Temperatures are set to fall as low as minus four degrees, with wintry showers, frost and icy patches expected.

The operation aims to curb speed related collisions and curb drink and drug driving and will continue until Monday.
