Cavan Town and Longford Town are the only areas in the region exempt from new laws that will curb short-term lets.

The restrictions were initially going to apply to towns with a population of over 10,000 - but that's now been increased to 20,000.

The area was closed off by gardai for around 24 hours after two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were seriously injured in assaults.

The victim was taken to Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin, for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí from the Longford Divisional Drugs Unit carried the search of a house in the Richmond Street area of the town last Friday.
