Roscommon champions St. Croan’s booked a place in the Connacht junior club semi-final with an eight point win over Cloonacool.
Croan’s scoring an impressive 2-12 to 1-7 victory over the Sligo junior champions in what was a competitive opening half.
Hughie Marren converted a penalty for Cloonacool in the 17th minute after a foul on Kevin Canahan. The goal put the Sligo side 1-3 to three-points ahead.
Croan’s replied with three points from Eoin Collins, Adrian Collins and Kevin Lambert to level the scores.
In first-half injury time Freddie Kelly finished a superb Croan’s move to the net. The Roscommon side led 1-6 to 1-3 at half-time.
Just one point separated the teams with 10 minutes remaining. However, Croan’s finished stronger through and points from Aidan Brogan, Alan Conroy and Kevin Smith gave them a cushion.
In the second minute of injury time, sub Keith Muldoon followed in a rebound to secure the win.
St. Croan’s now face Mayo champions Kiltimagh at a Mayo venue next Sunday in the semi-final as Croan’s won out 2-12 to 1-7.
