St. Brigids booked a place in the Roscommon SFC quarter-finals with a 3-23 to 0-15 victory over Western Gaels in Kiltoom.
The hosts dominated the opening stages racing into a five-point lead with eight minutes played.
This was followed by a surging Brian Stack run splitting the Gaels defence. The half back found Robbie Dolan who placed the ball past goalkeeper Patrick Gaynor.
Western Gaels opened their account on 19 minutes when the experienced Seanie McDermott slotted over a point. From the subsequent kick out St Brigids responded immediately with a point of their own through Ciaran Sugrue.
Patrick Gaynor continued his fine form in this year championship with a well taken two point free for Western Gaels.
Brigid’s were nine points ahead when Ruaidhri Fallon found Eddie Nolan to score his side’s second goal of the evening.
Creegg brothers lead fight back
Cathal and Finbarr Cregg registered points for Western Gaels in the latter stages of the first-half. However, the hosts side in complete control by 15 points at the break 2-14 to 0-5.
The scores continued to flow in the second half, Shane Cunnane opened the scoring with two well taken strikes in the second half, a 45 and two pointer. James McDonnell quickly responded with a two pointer of his own for Western Gaels.
Six minutes into the second half Eddie Nolan had his second goal of the evening as the home sides lead was extended to 19 points The Kiltoom were dealt a blow moments later when Pierce Frost was forced of through injury.
Western Gaels had a purple patch of their own for the following 14 minutes. Cathal Cregg and Oisin Ward both registered points before Patrick Gaynor raised the two-point flag again for the visitors.
The hosts broke their 14-minute drought when Ciaran Sugrue fired over. Further points from John Cunningham, Paul McGrath and Charlie O Carroll ensured they remained in front securing their second group stage win.
St. Brigids running out 17-point winners on a scoreline of 3-23 to 0-15 with county star Brigid’s county star Ben O Carroll present in Kiltoom for this evening’s action.
