Longford boss Mike Solan praised Dessie Reynolds as his important scores helped Longford to victory over Waterford.
Longford scored a 1-18 to 3-14 win over Waterford with Dessie contributing five points including two two-pointers.
“Dessie got us off to a very good start there in the second-half” explained Solan. He “kicked a couple of big two-pointers and got us moving again which was huge in the overall context of the game.”
We “probably wouldn't have the rate of conversion we would have liked today with the amount of chances we created” Solan explained.
However, “there'll be days like that and the pitch is sticky and sometimes it can be hard to keep the standing foot steady when you're trying to get a shot away”.
The Longford boss was proud with his sides first win of the season, particularly after the home defeat to London.
However, conceding three goals to a team who have won just two games in the last three season questions their defensive standing.
“We've got stuff to work on defensively and around high balls dropping in” explained Solan.
“I suppose that's just a feature of the game that there are going to be balls dropping in we just need to be better dealing with them next week and that's I suppose a very simple learning for us to take from today”.
Longford face Antrim in round three. Antrim are looking to get off the mark after defeats to Carlow and Tipperary.
