Padraig Pearses manager Pat Flanagan has told Shannonside he has been nominated to become the new Roscommon senior manager.
Flanagan has been linked with the vacant positions available in both Roscommon and Longford following the recent resignations of Anthony Cunningham and Billy O’Loughlin.
Speaking in the wake of Pearses’ 4-10 to 0-8 loss to St Brigid’s in the Roscommon SFC, Flanagan refuted the notion of becoming Longford manager but hasn’t ruled out managing the Rossies;
“It just baffles me at times to see where these stories come from; I’ve had absolutely no contact with Longford whatsoever” Flanagan told Shannonside sport.
“As far as the Roscommon situation is concerned they know my CV, if they want a call, they know where I am”
“They’re a very proud county and I’d imagine that whoever’s going to get that job in the near future will get it internally, it certainly won’t be on a media circus”.
Flanagan was asked if there was any recent contact from the Roscommon board but he remained tight-lipped on the matter; “I’m not saying there was no contact but I’m not saying that I know any further than that. Obviously, Padraig Pearses put my name forward for the position so we’ll have to just wait and see.”
Asked about how he felt about a return to inter-county management in general but took a light-hearted view on the matter;
“After today I might be looking for a job so we’ll see who knocks on the door.”
