Michael Glaveys scored five goals as they beat Elphin by 14 points this afternoon.
Cathal Heneghan stared for Gaveys scoring three of the five goals writes Matthew Towey.
Daniel Hagney got Michael Glaveys of to a strong start with a two-point free after four minutes. Whereas, Elphin responded three minutes later when Aaron Brady fired over a 45-meter kick.
Cathal Heneghan got his side’s first goal of the afternoon after 10 minutes. Robert Heneghan teed him up to finish to an empty net.
Nine minutes later, Cathal grabbed his second of the afternoon after some brilliant link up play between Niall and Robert Heneghan setting up Cathal.
Elphin trailing by six points at this stage reduced the Glaveys lead when Gerry Cregg and Evan Gunn scored three points between them.
Having reduced the Glaveys lead to three, Elphin were struck a blow when Michael Glaveys forward Tiernan Murphy scored his side’s third goal on the stroke of half-time.
Glaveys lay down first half marker
At half-time Michael Glaveys led by six points, 3-3 to 0-6.
Elphin started the more brightly of the two sides. A John Finnerty point along with two points from Aaron Brady, reducing the lead to three points again.
Bradys 45-meter free was to be the last score of the day for Elphin. Moments later Dylan Ruane powered through the Elphin defence and scored his side’s fourth goal of the afternoon.
Three minutes later the Heneghan’s combined when Cathal completed his hat-trick after been picked out by Robert to find the Elphin net.
Elphin were awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute but John Finnerty struck the post.
Michael Glaveys controlled the contest for the final five minutes. As further points from Daniel Hagney along with scores from Niall and Robert Heneghan secured their second group stage win.
Michael Glaveys running out 14-point winners, 5-8 to nine points at Peader Earley Memorial Park, Ballinlough. Elsewhere, in group B St. Brigids made it two-wins from two on Friday night.
